STERLING silver

Pure silver is a very soft metal and so other elements are added in order to give it strength. All our sterling silver is guaranteed to be at least 92.5% silver (hence the 925 mark) but will still scratch easily. silver items are corrosion resistant but can be tarnished by suphides in the atmosphere and certain foods, such as egg and salt.

CLEANING

  • Wash separately from stainless items because they will cause a chemical reaction if in contact when wet which can damage the silver.
  • Specialist silver polish can restore the shine.
  • Special care is needed with the knives because the blades are made stainless steel.
  • Please be aware that silver dip products are very strong can will react to stainless steel, so are inadvisable for knives.
  • Do not use abrasive cloths or wire wool.

silver PLATED ITEMS

A silver coating is applied to items made from copper, zinc, brass and nickel. silver plated items are corrosion resistant but can be tarnished by suphides in the atmosphere and certain foods, such as egg and salt.

STAINLESS STEEL

Stainless steel is a tough metal that will give a lifetime of use if well looked after.

  • While stainless steel is stain resistant, it’s not stain proof.
  • Wash separately from silver plated and sterling silver cutlery because they will cause a chemical reaction if in contact when wet which can damage the silver.
  • Specialist stainless steel polish can restore the shine.
  • Special care is needed with the knives because the blades are made of 13% chrome and no nickel to ensure a lasting sharper edge.
  • Do not use abrasive cloths or wire wool.
